Residential Basic Levels of Service
Container Information
Per California Senate Bill 1383, all residents are required to have landfill, recycling, and organics services. As of July 1, 2024, the residential basic level of service for each Laguna Beach resident includes one (1) landfill cart, one (1) recycle cart, and one (1) organics cart. Each resident can either select 35-gallon, 65-gallon, or 95-gallon carts for each waste stream; however, monthly rates are based on the size of the landfill cart.To exchange cart sizes, request additional carts, report a stolen or damaged cart, please contact CR&R’s dedicated Laguna Beach Customer Service team at (949) 662-3819.

Recycling
To mitigate contamination, it is important to place only recyclable items in your blue lid recycling cart. Please review this section for more information on what items can be and cannot be placed in your recycle cart. Organics Recyling
California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383)
California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) requires all residential households to participate in an organics collection program. CR&R Environmental Services, together with the City of Laguna Beach, co-collects food scraps and yard waste in your green lid organics cart. - Place yard waste at the very bottom of the cart first to absorb liquids
- Alternate layers of yard waste and food scraps
- Sprinkle baking soda on top of your food scraps
- Drain excess liquids before placing food scraps in the cart
- Use BPI certified compostable bags for food scraps
- Keep the cart in a covered or shaded area out of direct sunlight

Collection Day Reminders
Your CR&R carts should be placed curbside with the lid fully closed no later than 6:30 a.m. on your scheduled collection day and removed within 12 hours after service. The cart should be placed side by side approximately one (1) foot apart from another and at least three (3) feet from any obstruction, such as a fence or vehicle. Placing items outside of your cart is considered non-containerization and will not be collected. -

If the holiday falls during the week, service will be postponed by one day after the holiday has occurred. Example: If the holiday falls on a Monday, and your collection day is Thursday, you will be serviced on Friday.

Bulky Items
Items that cannot fit in your carts are considered bulky items. Residents of Laguna Beach are entitled to four (4) bulky item pickups per year, with ten (10) items per pickup. Additional pickups can be requested for a fee.Common bulky items include:
- Couches
- Desks
- Chairs
- Tables
- Mattresses
- Excess Green Waste
- Sleeper couches
- Range
- Washer/Dryer

Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any type of product that requires special handling under environmental law and prohibits disposal in regular waste. HHW includes items such as:
- Car Care Products
- Cleaning Products
- Paint
- Electronic Waste
- Universal Waste
CR&R provides Laguna Beach residents with four (4) HHW collections per year, with one (1) pickup per quarter. Additional pickups can be requested for a fee.
In addition, the City of Laguna Beach, in partnership with CR&R, hosts an annual HHW Dropoff event where residents can dispose of HHW free of charge. Please refer to the City of Laguna Beach’s website at www.lagunabeachcity.net/recycling for additional information about upcoming events.
Sharps disposal mail-back containers are available upon request at no charge. The mail-back container allows residents to safely and properly dispose of sharps waste including needles, injector pens, and syringes. Sharps disposal containers can also be picked up from your residence by scheduling a pickup.

Special Services
CR&R staff can collect your carts from your home and put them back after service for a monthly fee. For customers with a disability, this service is complementary. Proof of disability is required.Holiday Greenery Collection will occur annually for three full weeks starting December 26th. We ask that you place your tree at the curb on your regular service collection day, remove all ornaments, and the tree stand. If your tree is over 6’ tall, please cut it in half. Our tree collectors will remove your tree without having to call our office.
